Barbados is packed full of things to do. Bridgetown is the capital of Barbados and steeped In history. You can see some of Barbados’ history with its historic buildings, museums and its influence from African, American and British is there for all to see. Bridgetown is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to it historical value.
Visit the Andromeda Botanic Gardens named after the mythological Greek princess, this six acre area is filled with hundreds of plant species and fruit trees and as you explore you will come across all kinds of wildlife from hummingbirds to playful monkeys. If animals are your thing then a trip to the Barbados wildlife reserve should be top of your list with free-roaming animals, friendly of course, like armadillo, deer, flamingos, pelicans, monkeys, parrots, peacocks, tortoises and turtles and many more whilst some more dangerous animals can be seen but are kept enclosed.
More animals, but this time we venture into the water. Snorkelling, diving, you can even get in a real submarine and take an underwater adventure where you will see coral, exotic fish and even a shipwreck. Above water you can party on the Black Pearl Jolly Roger Pirate Ship, go surfing in the warm Barbados waters, go fishing from the shore or sea fishing and have I mentioned the pristine white sand beaches yet?
If you like a bit of golf you will love Apes Hill Golf Course, one of the most recent championship golf courses in the Caribbean or theres the Kensington Oval where you might be able to catch some cricket. If you want active but golf is not your cup of tea, how about a trip around the island on an E-bike. There’s more…Harrison’s Cave Eco-Adventue Park where you can view waterfalls, stalagmite formations and running streams. Not to forget, Medford Craftworld, shopping malls, old sugar mills, museums, galleries and a host of tropical and botanical gardens.
The cuisine in Barbados is born from its landscape, history and influences. There are lots of traditional dishes; rice and peas is a popular Sunday dinner, Flying Fish is the national dish of Barbados, ‘Puddin n Souse’ – Souse was originally made from the unwanted cuts of pork that were given to enslaved Africans but now you get it served using lean cuts of pork and the Puddin is sweet potato based. Try Bajan Macaroni Pie, Bajan Chicken Soup or Bajan fish cakes and to top it off, when in the birth place of rum, try some rum cake.
After dinner, the fun continues with the nightlife. St Lawrence Gap is the central nightlife spot in Barbados, but you can try the Harbour Lights for an extravaganza dinner show with amazing entertainment, Holetown can offer various nightlife options from high-end hideaways to top-class DJ’s.
The Barbados weather is pretty constant when it comes to temperatures with average temperatures sitting between 26 and 27°C all year round with 8-10 hours of daily sunshine. Having a dip in the sea will not make you shiver as it does at home with sea temperatures remaining permanently between 27-29°C.
Whilst the temperature and sea temperature remains constant, rainfall dramatically increases in the wet season between July and November. December through to June is the dry season, here you will find minimal rainfall, low humidity and generally 9 hours a day of sunshine at temperatures of the ever-constant 26-27°C.
The best time to travel to Barbados is from the months December to May. During this time you will get the best of the weather with high temperatures, lower humidity and less rainfall allowing you to make the most of your Barbados Holiday.
July to November is the wet season and the Caribbean Hurricane season is traditionally June to October so we would recommend avoiding travel during this period.
